Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 1004

Two legs from a 1155 fix: where is the 1300 DR?

At 1155 you fix your position 046°T, 3.9 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 344°T at 5.1 kn until 1215, then 228°T at 7.9 kn until 1300.

Give the 1300 DR position as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
