Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 298316

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1520: plot the fix.

At 1520 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 198°M and Kittle water tank bears 146°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "3" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
