At 1050 you fix your position 086°T, 3.0 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 217°T at 6.2 kn until 1105, then 328°T at 6.2 kn until 1140.

Give the 1140 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
