At 1500 you fix your position 041°T, 1.5 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 184°T at 4.3 kn until 1520, then 024°T at 8.6 kn until 1540.

Give the 1540 DR position as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
