Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 125004

Two legs from a 1400 fix: where is the 1430 DR?

At 1400 you fix your position 308°T, 1.6 nm from Kittle water tank. You steer 328°T at 6.9 kn until 1410, then 223°T at 5.3 kn until 1430.

Give the 1430 DR position as the true bearing FROM Mill stack to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
