Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Two legs from a 1030 fix: where is the 1130 DR?

At 1030 you fix your position 019°T, 2.7 nm from Heron Point Light. You steer 002°T at 4.3 kn until 1105, then 293°T at 4.9 kn until 1130.

Give the 1130 DR position as the true bearing FROM Westfield church spire to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
