Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 13001

Two legs from a 1030 fix: where is the 1125 DR?

At 1030 you fix your position 023°T, 0.9 nm from Kittle water tank. You steer 349°T at 8.6 kn until 1115, then 052°T at 7.2 kn until 1125.

Give the 1125 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
