Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 13008

Two legs from a 1335 fix: where is the 1415 DR?

At 1335 you fix your position 102°T, 1.5 nm from Westfield church spire. You steer 198°T at 5.7 kn until 1345, then 110°T at 5.5 kn until 1415.

Give the 1415 DR position as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
