Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Two legs from a 1545 fix: where is the 1630 DR?

At 1545 you fix your position 016°T, 1.8 nm from Mill stack. You steer 009°T at 5.7 kn until 1610, then 282°T at 8.8 kn until 1630.

Give the 1630 DR position as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
