At 1540 you fix your position 089°T, 0.8 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 341°T at 7.5 kn until 1610, then 300°T at 4.6 kn until 1630.

Give the 1630 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
