Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 17003

Two legs from a 1440 fix: where is the 1550 DR?

At 1440 you fix your position 307°T, 2.4 nm from Tern Island tower. You steer 170°T at 8.8 kn until 1505, then 107°T at 7.5 kn until 1550.

Give the 1550 DR position as the true bearing FROM Kittle water tank to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
