Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 17006

Two legs from a 1530 fix: where is the 1610 DR?

At 1530 you fix your position 350°T, 3.2 nm from Mill stack. You steer 019°T at 7.4 kn until 1545, then 283°T at 9.0 kn until 1610.

Give the 1610 DR position as the true bearing FROM Westfield church spire to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
