At 0940 you fix your position 298°T, 1.4 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 036°T at 5.8 kn until 1005, then 315°T at 5.2 kn until 1020.

Give the 1020 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
