Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 20002

Two legs from a 1400 fix: where is the 1515 DR?

At 1400 you fix your position 041°T, 2.1 nm from Westfield church spire. You steer 162°T at 7.3 kn until 1440, then 097°T at 9.4 kn until 1515.

Give the 1515 DR position as the true bearing FROM Kittle water tank to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
