Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 2006

Two legs from a 1145 fix: where is the 1235 DR?

At 1145 you fix your position 240°T, 2.2 nm from Tern Island tower. You steer 251°T at 4.3 kn until 1205, then 312°T at 9.5 kn until 1235.

Give the 1235 DR position as the true bearing FROM Westfield church spire to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
