At 1200 you fix your position 224°T, 2.4 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 327°T at 9.2 kn until 1225, then 271°T at 4.8 kn until 1240.

Give the 1240 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
