At 1405 you fix your position 044°T, 3.9 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 203°T at 7.8 kn until 1430, then 295°T at 6.3 kn until 1440.

Give the 1440 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
