Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 24004

Two legs from a 1355 fix: where is the 1430 DR?

At 1355 you fix your position 040°T, 2.3 nm from Heron Point Light. You steer 299°T at 7.1 kn until 1410, then 083°T at 5.0 kn until 1430.

Give the 1430 DR position as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
