At 1545 you fix your position 300°T, 1.0 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 270°T at 6.2 kn until 1620, then 106°T at 7.1 kn until 1640.

Give the 1640 DR position as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
