Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Two legs from a 0950 fix: where is the 1035 DR?

At 0950 you fix your position 002°T, 3.0 nm from Mill stack. You steer 004°T at 5.3 kn until 1025, then 217°T at 7.5 kn until 1035.

Give the 1035 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
