Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 280003

Two legs from a 0925 fix: where is the 1015 DR?

At 0925 you fix your position 071°T, 2.7 nm from Westfield church spire. You steer 160°T at 8.7 kn until 0955, then 302°T at 9.2 kn until 1015.

Give the 1015 DR position as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
