Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 28008

Two legs from a 1220 fix: where is the 1315 DR?

At 1220 you fix your position 329°T, 2.3 nm from Mill stack. You steer 063°T at 9.6 kn until 1240, then 271°T at 9.8 kn until 1315.

Give the 1315 DR position as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
