Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 30004

Two legs from a 0800 fix: where is the 0830 DR?

At 0800 you fix your position 009°T, 3.2 nm from Mill stack. You steer 263°T at 8.8 kn until 0815, then 296°T at 9.5 kn until 0830.

Give the 0830 DR position as the true bearing FROM Westfield church spire to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
