Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Two legs from a 1550 fix: where is the 1655 DR?

At 1550 you fix your position 005°T, 1.6 nm from Mill stack. You steer 002°T at 9.8 kn until 1615, then 145°T at 4.0 kn until 1655.

Give the 1655 DR position as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
