Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 4008

Two legs from a 1445 fix: where is the 1530 DR?

At 1445 you fix your position 018°T, 2.5 nm from Westfield church spire. You steer 121°T at 8.8 kn until 1520, then 259°T at 4.5 kn until 1530.

Give the 1530 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
