At 1530 you fix your position 045°T, 3.4 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 256°T at 6.4 kn until 1615, then 310°T at 5.2 kn until 1650.

Give the 1650 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
