Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Two legs from a 1325 fix: where is the 1430 DR?

At 1325 you fix your position 017°T, 2.5 nm from Westfield church spire. You steer 099°T at 7.3 kn until 1350, then 162°T at 6.7 kn until 1430.

Give the 1430 DR position as the true bearing FROM Mill stack to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
