Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Two legs from a 0740 fix: where is the 0825 DR?

At 0740 you fix your position 002°T, 2.2 nm from Mill stack. You steer 086°T at 8.2 kn until 0805, then 035°T at 5.2 kn until 0825.

Give the 0825 DR position as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
