Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 64002

Two legs from a 0830 fix: where is the 0855 DR?

At 0830 you fix your position 044°T, 3.0 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 303°T at 8.3 kn until 0845, then 056°T at 4.2 kn until 0855.

Give the 0855 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
