Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 65002

Two legs from a 1050 fix: where is the 1135 DR?

At 1050 you fix your position 064°T, 3.7 nm from Westfield church spire. You steer 164°T at 7.3 kn until 1120, then 089°T at 5.6 kn until 1135.

Give the 1135 DR position as the true bearing FROM Mill stack to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
