Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 7006

Two legs from a 0935 fix: where is the 1015 DR?

At 0935 you fix your position 065°T, 2.4 nm from Westfield church spire. You steer 102°T at 7.7 kn until 1000, then 250°T at 4.5 kn until 1015.

Give the 1015 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
