Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 7008

Two legs from a 1405 fix: where is the 1450 DR?

At 1405 you fix your position 267°T, 2.6 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 334°T at 7.7 kn until 1420, then 106°T at 5.7 kn until 1450.

Give the 1450 DR position as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
