Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 8001

Two legs from a 1420 fix: where is the 1540 DR?

At 1420 you fix your position 257°T, 1.4 nm from Tern Island tower. You steer 165°T at 5.3 kn until 1455, then 295°T at 9.5 kn until 1540.

Give the 1540 DR position as the true bearing FROM Westfield church spire to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
