Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 8003

Two legs from a 1245 fix: where is the 1310 DR?

At 1245 you fix your position 201°T, 1.9 nm from Tern Island tower. You steer 063°T at 8.1 kn until 1255, then 110°T at 7.9 kn until 1310.

Give the 1310 DR position as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
