Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 8004

Two legs from a 1350 fix: where is the 1445 DR?

At 1350 you fix your position 060°T, 1.4 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 090°T at 6.9 kn until 1400, then 326°T at 5.6 kn until 1445.

Give the 1445 DR position as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
