Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 8008

Two legs from a 1600 fix: where is the 1645 DR?

At 1600 you fix your position 217°T, 1.5 nm from Tern Island tower. You steer 220°T at 7.9 kn until 1615, then 265°T at 8.5 kn until 1645.

Give the 1645 DR position as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
