Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 88007
Two legs from a 1000 fix: where is the 1040 DR?
At 1000 you fix your position 260°T, 1.6 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 256°T at 7.6 kn until 1030, then 301°T at 4.2 kn until 1040.
Give the 1040 DR position as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
