Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 9002

Two legs from a 1205 fix: where is the 1240 DR?

At 1205 you fix your position 344°T, 1.4 nm from Heron Point Light. You steer 008°T at 9.9 kn until 1220, then 216°T at 5.9 kn until 1240.

Give the 1240 DR position as the true bearing FROM Westfield church spire to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
