Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 9003

Two legs from a 1500 fix: where is the 1550 DR?

At 1500 you fix your position 042°T, 3.5 nm from Gannet Rock daybeacon. You steer 201°T at 9.3 kn until 1525, then 032°T at 9.5 kn until 1550.

Give the 1550 DR position as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
