Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 3 · Dead reckoningProblem 97005

Two legs from a 0945 fix: where is the 1005 DR?

At 0945 you fix your position 243°T, 3.2 nm from Tern Island tower. You steer 186°T at 4.6 kn until 0955, then 311°T at 5.8 kn until 1005.

Give the 1005 DR position as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the DR, and the distance. Courses are true and speeds are through the water; dead reckoning ignores current and leeway.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
