Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 10005

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0700: plot the fix.

At 0700 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 286°M and Mill stack bears 190°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
