Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 10006
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1410: plot the fix.
At 1410 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 173°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 122°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "3" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
