Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1030: plot the fix.

At 1030 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 258°M and Kittle water tank bears 167°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
