Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 108004
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1135: plot the fix.
At 1135 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 307°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 063°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Mill stack to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
