Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 11001
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1610: plot the fix.
At 1610 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 251°M and Heron Point Light bears 191°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
