Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 11003

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0740: plot the fix.

At 0740 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 252°M and Mill stack bears 189°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "3" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
