Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 11006
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1235: plot the fix.
At 1235 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 114°M and Heron Point Light bears 189°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Westfield church spire to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
