Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 11007

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0730: plot the fix.

At 0730 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 252°M and Kittle water tank bears 150°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
