Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 11008
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1410: plot the fix.
At 1410 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 214°M and Westfield church spire bears 285°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Gannet Rock daybeacon to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
