Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 113007

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1050: plot the fix.

At 1050 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 253°M and Mill stack bears 186°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
